Kindergarten

Kindergarten is the year to ignite a lifelong love of learning. Welcome to my classroom where I partner with parents to grow well-rounded, hard-working, kind disciples with the help of God. Our full day kindergarten program allows for rigorous academic work as well as all the extras that make school fun: art, choir, P.E., field trips, 7th-grade buddies, interactive science notebooks, writing portfolios, chapel and more! I invite you to come to see our classroom in action by scheduling a tour or visiting us at Kindergarten Information Night in January.

First Grade

What a blessing it is to partner with you in the education of your children. We get to be the teachers, the encouragers, the cheerleaders, the guides, the listening ears, the ones they will look to for approval or simply a smile. First grade is full of “firsts”. They are often losing their first teeth, tying their shoes for the first time, playing on their very first team, and – before we know it – reading their first chapter book. It’s all so exciting!

During this formative year, we want to create an atmosphere where each child will enjoy learning. Coupled with Science of Reading, the Open Court curriculum builds a strong foundation in reading, phonics, and spelling. The three-fold foundation is made up of skills and strategies that lead to early independence in decoding and comprehension. The Learning Headquarters’ Standard-Based Writing Program is designed to ensure each child can write at the standard as they receive support at their given level on a daily basis. First graders work through Envision Math, a hands-on, success-oriented series that emphasizes manipulative and mental math. Envision uses a multi-sensory approach, enabling all children to develop a solid foundation in the language and basic concepts of mathematics.

In social studies, we follow the calendar year, studying people of importance and events that give meaning and understanding to what it means to be an American. We’ve adopted Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which balances hands-on exploration and solid content knowledge for most effective student learning. Concordia’s Enduring Faith religion curriculum helps first graders grow in discipleship as they study God’s word and apply Bible truths to their lives. Daily prayer time, memorization of scripture verses, and weekly chapel services are also part of our religion curriculum.

Highlights of First Grade:

Second Grade

Second grade is an exciting year for students to grow and develop skills that are necessary for academic and spiritual maturity.  Open Court is our language arts curriculum.  The themes within lend themselves to that growth.  Along with phonics, spelling, and grammar, second graders enjoy a wide variety of literature as they strengthen comprehension strategies and become confident writers.

Savvas Envsion 2.0 math continues to build on key skills in number sense.  In social studies, second graders learn about people within their small and large community. They will examine their role as a citizen, and discover ways that they can make a difference.  We’ve adopted Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which balances hands-on exploration and solid content knowledge for most effective student learning. Concordia’s One in Christ religion curriculum helps second graders become familiar with both Old and New Testament stories and explore ways to apply Bible truths to their lives. Daily prayer time, memorization of scripture verses, and weekly chapel services are also part of our religion curriculum.

Third Grade

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Third Grade where every day is filled with learning! During Language Arts we will do a combination of stories with phonic and vocabulary emphasis. We also read novels from a variety of genres. In addition, students will have opportunities to present projects on what they have read. We continue to work on grammar rules and usage. Students use narrative, expository and informative writing styles. Math builds on foundations from second grade. “Mad Dog” math is introduced, which are drills covering multiplication and division facts 0-12. We will also begin fractions.  In History/Social Studies, we cover Early American Communities and Governments. Our Science curriculum includes Life and Earth Science, Matter, and Energy. It is a blessing to teach your child each day and we will continue to deepen our relationships with Jesus and others.

Highlights of Third Grade:

Fourth Grade

Fourth Grade is a very exciting year where students develop and grow academically and spiritually. Every day is filled with learning as we problem solve, read, write, explore, create, and deepen our relationship with Jesus and others.

Students will solidify their understanding of previous learned concepts in place value, multiplication, division, geometry and measurement along with the introduction of computations with fractions and decimals. This year we will be implementing the Khanmigo program to help individualize student's learning needs.

HISTORY…

Together we discover the origins of our nation. We will track the steps taken that lead explorers to the Americas, the events that lead European colonies to colonies in the New World, the course of events that lead to the revolution and the development of a new nation, The United States of America. Along the way students will engage in "living history" to experience life as they did when our nation was starting, at our Star of India overnight field trip.
