Kindergarten is the year to ignite a lifelong love of learning. Welcome to my classroom where I partner with parents to grow well-rounded, hard-working, kind disciples with the help of God. Our full day kindergarten program allows for rigorous academic work as well as all the extras that make school fun: art, choir, P.E., field trips, 7th-grade buddies, interactive science notebooks, writing portfolios, chapel and more! I invite you to come to see our classroom in action by scheduling a tour or visiting us at Kindergarten Information Night in January.
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Third Grade where every day is filled with learning! During Language Arts we will do a combination of stories with phonic and vocabulary emphasis. We also read novels from a variety of genres. In addition, students will have opportunities to present projects on what they have read. We continue to work on grammar rules and usage. Students use narrative, expository and informative writing styles. Math builds on foundations from second grade. “Mad Dog” math is introduced, which are drills covering multiplication and division facts 0-12. We will also begin fractions. In History/Social Studies, we cover Early American Communities and Governments. Our Science curriculum includes Life and Earth Science, Matter, and Energy. It is a blessing to teach your child each day and we will continue to deepen our relationships with Jesus and others.
Students will learn about the old and new testament as we go through an overview of the entire bible incorp[orating the Enduring Faith curriculum from CPH.
Comprehension and articulation skills continue to develop in students using the novels of Because of Winn Dixie, Holes, Number the Stars, By the Great Horn Spoon, and more. Through these novels we will cultivate skills that will allow students to make inferences and develop empathy for characters and events within the story.
Students will solidify their understanding of previous learned concepts along with the introduction of computations with fractions.
Together we learn about the origins of our state, the native tribes that lived in California, the California missions, as well as the Gold Rush.
Students will learn about science through many hands-on experiments as they discover the natural forces and scientific principles present in the world around us.
Students learn to apply biblical principles to their everyday lives through the Enduring Faith Curriculum. Our school theme this year is "Be Strong in the Lord", based upon Ephesians 6:10-18 "Put on the Full Armor of God".
Comprehension and articulation skills continue to develop in students using the novels. We will read a variety of genres to include realistic fiction, historical fiction and biographies. Through these novels we will cultivate skills that will allow students to lead Socratic Seminars (class discussions), make inferences, develop understanding of characters and events within the story.
Students will develop their writing skills through the writing process; drafting, revising and publishing. The main writing topics include personal narratives, informational and opinion essays. Students will use scoring rubrics to assess their spelling, grammar and vocabulary skills. Students will practice their typing and cursive skills as well.
Students will solidify their understanding of previous learned concepts in place value, multiplication, division, geometry and measurement along with the introduction of computations with fractions and decimals. This year we will be implementing the Khanmigo program to help individualize student's learning needs.
Together we discover the origins of our nation. We will track the steps taken that lead explorers to the Americas, the events that lead European colonies to colonies in the New World, the course of events that lead to the revolution and the development of a new nation, The United States of America. Along the way students will engage in "living history" to experience life as they did when our nation was starting, at our Star of India overnight field trip.
Students will learn and research about life systems (plant life & human body), our solar system, and studying matter. These topics will engage students curiosity along with inquiry based lessons and hands on science experiments.
