Purpose

The purpose of the St. Paul’s Athletic Program is to provide all students in grades 5-8 an opportunity to participate on volleyball and basketball teams. Through participation, they will learn sportsmanship, the value of teamwork, the importance of giving their best effort, and how to deal with the emotional highs and lows of athletic contests. As another result of their participation, they will develop the physical talents with which they have been blessed. St. Paul’s participates in the Catholic Sports League of San Diego Schedules and scores can be found here:

Goals

Participation – All students in grades five, six, seven and eight may participate in the St. Paul’s Athletic Program.

Sportsmanship – All participants will treat teammates, coaches, opponents and referees with respect.

Sportsmanship – All participants will be gracious in victory and complimentary in defeat.

Attitude – All participants will develop an attitude of perseverance and determination.

Teamwork – All participants will appreciate the roles and skills of each of their teammates.

Athletic Skills – All participants will improve their individual volleyball and basketball skills.

Objectives

Coaches will reinforce displays of sportsmanship.
Coaches will use the results of games to teach participants to honestly evaluate their individual and team effort.
Participants and coaches will congratulate their opponents, win or lose.
Coaches will discipline participants’ disrespectful words or actions directed at teammates, opponents or referees.
Coaches will provide positive role modeling in dealing with referees and opponents.
Participants will encourage teammates to treat referees and opponents with respect.

The coach will be a positive Christian role model.
The coach will read the St. Paul’s Athletic Program purpose, goals and objectives and will coach within those guidelines.
A practice schedule is to be organized prior to each practice session.
Practices are to be held after school a minimum of once each week and a maximum of three times a week.
A variety of drills which foster skill development will be utilized.
The coach will be present at each practice and scheduled match or game.
The coach will maintain a positive relationship with the other league coaches, players and officials.

Learning program after-school

St. Paul's offers a variety of after-school enrichment opportunities held on campus. You may enroll your child in different sessions. Most after-school classes begin right after school.
